We love the taste of the food there. There is an entreé "Plato Navideño" (Xmas Meal) that is a celebration of Xmas in Puerto Rico: rice with green pigeon beans(arroz con gandules), pastel, rosted pork(pernil)for $8.50. The chicken soup or shrimp soup(asopao de pollo o camarones) with fried green plantains(tostones)is really good. Lunch specials(10am-2pm)for $5.

The best Puertorrican food ever.... By Magdalena Perez from Orlando, fl, January 12, 2006

The best Puertorrican food ever. The service is very friendly like tipical puertorricans. The atmosphere is like being in Puerto Rico with the music and the pictures of Puerto Rico hanging on the walls.

“Very good restaurant” Guavate Save Review 5 of 5 stars tabum Orlando, FL Feb 24, 2009
Very good restaurant and atmosphere. The chicken breast on garlic sauce it's excellent and the Pernil Mofongo is very good. Enjoyed the flan and the Tamarindo juice. One of the best Latin restaurants I've tried in Orlando.
“Best Puertorrican Restaurant in Orlando” Guavate Save Review 5 of 5 stars worldtraveler428 Orlando, FL Feb 19, 2009
This is a great find in Orlando. For years I have been looking for a restaurant that served puertorrican cuisine and I have found it.
Guavate is at a new location on Alafaya Trail (between Curry Ford and Lake Underhill). I never had the opportunity in visiting their previous location but based on past reviews this is easy to get to.
Here you can find everything from mofongo, asopao, pernil con arroz con gandules, etc. The moment you walk into the restaurant you feel like you are back on the island.
“Excellent food, service, atmosphere” Guavate Save Review 5 of 5 stars gargamel East Orlando, FL Feb 4, 2009
I am writing this review based on my recent visit to Guavate on 448 South Alafaya Trail, Orlando, FL.
After having several excellent experiences at El Mangood (Dominican) restaurant in the same plaza, we decided to try Guavate for a late lunch one Saturday afternoon. We were greeted promptly and seated immediately. The walls are adorned with some very nice paintings and the restaurant is open, airy, trendy and fresh.
Our server was cheerful and polite, and quickly took our drink orders. My wife and I both got some Sangria. The Sangria was whisked out promptly and we asked for a few minutes to take in the extensive menu of Puerto Rican favorites. I finally settled on the Pernil, what I would consider to be the standard gauge of whether a Latin restaurant is worth its salt. My wife opted for the Mofongo stuffed with pernil. I got the rice & beans and my wife just got the mofongo. Out came some delicious hot bread.
After a very brief wait (and enjoying out sangrias), our food arrived. The portion size was large, but satisfying and not too much. I tried some of my wife's stuffed mofongo. The mofongo was arguably the best mofongo I have had...very fresh and seasoned perfectly. My pernil was good, but not quite as good as El Mangood's offering. It was still phenomenal.
I have no complaints about the food or the service at Guavate. The prices are a bit steep, but this is home cooking, and really worth the price, especially with the leftovers you will be taking home. To cap off our late lunch, we ordered some flan de queso and some vanilla flan. The queso flan was sublime - the best I have had, period. The vanilla was just as good, if not better.
Bill payment was quick and pain-free. A gratuity was already added to the final bill, which is not the norm in the area, but fine with me nonetheless.
I would recommend this place to anyone without reservations, but I also urge you to go try the offerings at El Mangood, which is also some of the best food in town. Either way, you will not really go wrong.
“Extremely good food and friendly service.” Guavate Save Review 5 of 5 stars jomanuelpr San Juan, Puerto Rico Aug 13, 2008
As soon as you walk in the place you feel you're back in a puertorican cafeteria. We drove from Virginia for an Orlando vacation and searched for places were we could eat puertorican food as we haven't had anything authentic in over two years. This place definitely hit the spot. Very good mofongo, pernil (pork shoulder), carne guisada, arroz, habichuelas... even the flan was good. Very affordable too. My wife had the carne guisada with rice, beans and a salad for $4.99 and I had the pernil with rice, beans and a salad for $5.99. Every bit of it tasted home cooked. Very good service as well. It's a little hard to find (right next to a Home Depot in Colonial Dr) because there's a lot of construction around but every bit worth the effort. I normally do not take the time to write these reviews but they really deserved it.
